“I’ve been incredibly lucky. I work in an industry I love, with people and subjects I care about. Not everyone can say that.”I create, write, shoot and produce content both for traditional publishers and businesses alike, both for print and online.
Using contacts nurtured over many years, I specialise in stories that strive to put the reader in the car with me, looking over my shoulder and enjoying the experience. I’ve talked to readers about such diverse subjects as driving a Lamborghini LP640 at 200mph, created videos exploring the grip of frozen lakes in Sweden and we’ve been caught speeding by the Gendarmes in France.
I tell everybody that this is work. We know it isn’t, not really.
Through Winward Media, we create websites with great content that help clients with their businesses. My previous career in specialist car sales and motorsport gave me some great experiences, wonderful friends and training that leads me to specialise in cars, automobiles, transportation. Cars and driving are my first loves, but I also regularly cover aviation, homes, travel and architecture. Indeed, I’m happy to go anywhere and feature anything. If you love a Cosworth DFV as much as a Merlin V12 and admire the late Ray Hanna as much as Sir Stirling, then we’re on the same page. My love of architecture, inspired by my Draughtsman teacher, has never left me.
How Can I help You?
Whether you’re a conventional publisher or business owner, I’m able to create work to your brief, delivering accurate facts, captions and boxouts, all within deadline and word count, I work with your photography and video staff or work solo and independently. Or I can lead a team to produce that elusive popular online content. The new media technologies are just as fascinating as the new cars we’ll soon be driving and I find the flexibility of these channels an exciting place to be.
Content Marketing. Today, Everyone is a Publisher
Business owners are realising the value of content marketing. No longer to you need to push a press release and hope it makes the print edition. With a blog attracting your own audience, you are the publisher, able to share your expertise and establish yourself as an Authority in your field. you may already have some great ideas, but need help to make them work, or you may only have the vaguest notion. Drop me a line, it’s good to talk.
If you’ve experienced instruction that goes “Do this, do that” and “No, not there, brake there…” you were probably able to obey the ‘instruction’. But the chances are, you were left with little understanding of the reasoning behind what you were being asked to do. I specialise in helping owners of high performance cars become more confident in their track driving abilities, learning new skills and constantly developing more speed, but with bigger margins of safety that ever. If you think we’d be a good fit, here’s some further driver coaching details

The Long Bio
You still here? Sometimes, people like to know how I arrived at where I’m at, so here’s a potted history. Just click away if you’re bored. No really, it’s not that exciting.
Born in Middlesbrough, a town currently a pale shadow if it’s former self, probably my earliest recollection of influence was my grandfather who served in the Royal Air Force as an engineer in World War Two. Sitting on his knee at Christmas time listening to stories of fixing Lancasters in winter time Europe, then American Douglas Boston bombers in the blazing heat of Africa. Combine that with black and white TV images of Jackie Stewart in an ELF Tyrrell and my Grandfather’s present of an old steering wheel one day, you can see where this is heading.
After school, the RAF decided I should go get some A Levels and then come back. I got the A Levels, but then through a summer job, I discovered that in the motor industry I was making money right away. My first big pay cheque got me a Nikon F801 SLR…
Eighteen happy years later, I looked across the showroom at the old guy in the corner with the shiny desk. The grey hair, grey suit, grey tie, grey shoes, with ‘Please shoot me’ on his forehead. While I dearly loved the motor industry, I realised that could easily be me one day and I decided to leave. After three years of working in the vipers nest that is motorsport management and I find myself being paid for photography and writing. Something I’d never have guessed when I was sitting on my grandfather’s knee talking about aeroplanes.
Since 2002, I’ve kept pace with the fascinating world of digital, publishing, online marketing and the amazing new ways we have to tell stories today, something called content marketing.
I’ve been very lucky.
