If you’re into Porsche, the 911 in particular, you may well have heard of writer and Porsche magazine editor Philip Raby. His passion for the 911 probably surpasses even mine, which is saying something. These days, he’s running his own Porsche consultancy business, supplying advice on buying all types of Porsche in the UK and beyond. His eBook guide, titled ‘You Can Drive a Porsche’ approaches ownership in a very fresh way and it explains a car owning methodology that I’ve wholeheartedly supported for many years. That is, that the single biggest expense in car ownership is not maintenance, fuel or insurance, but depreciation. Remove, or minimise, that element and you suddenly find car ownership a lot less painful. Apply that to Porsche ownership and you have a winning formula.
It’s an explanation I’ve tried to offer people on many occasions when people comment, “I’ll never be able to afford one of those.” When I explain the process, they give me a list of bullet points, “I don’t know which model, I don’t know about insurance, what if it breaks, what if… what if…”
Well, what if you had all of the information you might need to make an informed decision on used Porsche ownership? Almost every time I talk to someone about how to begin Porsche ownership, it is fear of the unknown that deters them. This guide doesn’t remove all obstacles, but it is a very large stride in the right direction.
Phil describes how you can buy, maintain and sell a Porsche for the same budget as your typical brand new family car, or medium executive saloon car. He gives an overview and guides on all of the main Porsche models you’re likely to come across on your quest for ownership, things to look for, things to run away from as fast as possible and finally, how to sell your Porsche once you’ve decided it’s time for it to go.
The eBook is written in plain English, easy for the non-mechanically minded to understand and explains the concepts of a Clever Car Buyer as opposed to the Foolish Car Buyer. All you need to bring to the party is a degree of logic, common sense and the courage to step out and do it. one final chapter is quite an important one for men of a certain age. ‘Getting Permission”. Inevitably, many prospective Porsche buyers have other people in their lives to consider and obtaining permission from your other half is something that this guide will be an invaluable part of. Far cheaper than that expensive restaurant where you were originally planning to broach the subject.
You can buy it either directly from Philip or by searching ‘Raby’ in Apple Bookstore.
Disclaimer – I’m not being paid to write this, I simply believe that everyone should own a Porsche at some point in their lives and this is one of the essential building blocks in that process.
